Badger School was one of three schools in Wisconsin to win a
Don’t Quit! fitness center from the
National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils, an organization focused on improving physical fitness in America's youth.
Special guests at the ribbon-cutting ceremony included Jake Steinfeld, fitness specialist and chairman of the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Appleton Schools Superintendent Lee Allinger and representatives from Coca-Cola North America and the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.
The
Don’t Quit! Fitness Center is financed through public/private partnerships with the Coca-Cola company, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, and Nike, and does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding. Additionally, TuffStuff Fitness International provides all of the fitness equipment.
The fitness room is equipped with elliptical, stationary bicycles and a jungle gym, among other amenities. There are stations where children learn simple exercises that can be done in 30 to 45 seconds.
To celebrate the commitment of Wisconsin schools to staying fit and healthy, Governor Walker also proclaimed the month of October as
DON’T QUIT! Fitness Month.
